The Top 3 Mistakes That Ruin Your Coffee at Home ☕
If your coffee at home doesn’t taste as good as you think it should…
you’re not alone.
Most of the time, it’s not the coffee — it’s a few simple mistakes that are easy to fix. Here are the top three mistakes we see people make at home (and how to fix them):
☕ Mistake #1: Using Old or Stale Coffee
Coffee doesn’t last forever and exposure to air, light, heat, and moisture can make it go stale faster than you think. Even great coffee can lose its flavor if it’s not stored properly.
Fix it: Keep your coffee sealed tight. You can store it right in our foil-lined, vented bags (just make sure it’s zipped closed), or transfer it to an airtight container. Store it at room temperature and away from light. Fresh coffee + proper storage = noticeably better flavor.
🧼 Mistake #2: Not Cleaning Your Coffee Equipment
Coffee beans naturally contain oils — and those oils stick to grinders, brewers, baskets, and carafes. Over time, those leftover oils turn old, rancid, and honestly… kind of gross.
If you’re not regularly cleaning your equipment, yesterday’s coffee oils are changing the flavor of today’s cup — making it taste bitter, flat, or off.
Fix it: Rinse daily and do a deeper clean regularly (grinder, brewer, and any parts that touch coffee). Clean equipment lets the actual flavor of your coffee shine through.
🔥 Mistake #3: Water That’s Too Hot (or Not Hot Enough)
Boiling water can scorch coffee, while water that’s too cool won’t extract enough flavor.
Fix it: Aim for hot but not boiling — roughly 195–205°F. If you don’t have a thermometer, just let boiling water sit for about 30 seconds before brewing.
The good news?
You don’t need fancy equipment or barista skills to make a great cup — just a few small tweaks can make a big difference.
